In the final analysis this pick should not have surprised us.

Reg is into character players. D.J. is nothing but character. Culture change.....in progress.

Raiders targeting D.J. Hayden with lower round-one pick

A top-ten draft trade means that the team trading up has a specific player in mind.  For the team trading down, the thinking is that there are players they want that they can get later, along with the other stuff that comes from trading down.

For the Raiders, who reportedly are talking about trading down from the third overall pick in the draft, one of their prime targets at a lower spot on the board would be, we’re told, Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden.

Hayden has made a late rise up the draft boards.  And not in the classic media-finally-waking-up sense.  Once it was clear that Hayden has no lingering health issues following November’s near-death experience involving a fluke rupture of the inferior vena cava, his stock steadily has grown.

At the Scouting Combine, the sense was that he’d definitely go in the first two rounds.  In recent days, he has become a sure-fire first-round pick.

One source said that many teams view both his game film and his medical file as better than Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner.

So at a time when plenty (including our final mock draft) have the Browns taking Milliner at six, the outcome could be a Raiders-Browns trade, with the Raiders snagging Hayden in that spot.

Say it again!!!

Hayden led Conference USA in interceptions

Hayden had a banner senior season, leading Conference USA while ranking 12th in the nation with four interceptions and had back-to-back games where he had returned interceptions for touchdowns.

Hayden appeared in 22 games at Houston, Recorded 127 tackles (90 solos) and intercepted six passes for 229 yards (38.17 avg) and three touchdowns.

Hayden earned All-American third-team and was selected All-Conference USA first-team by the league’s coaches and media.

Hayden's 97-yard interception return against UTEP is the longest return by a Cougar since Frank Ditta returned a interception 100 yards vs. San Jose State in 1971.

Tell em again Tibs!

Best DB in the draft... and we got him... and he just so happened to come with a 2nd round pick....

Meanwhile... after 22 picks...

"Shariff Floyd is still falling"

LOL

Was on the fence. Now I'm not.

I'm sold.

This was a great pick.

And after 23 picks...

Shariff Floyd is finally drafted...

Right after all of Mayock's "guys" responded to him saying "Only 5 career sacks"  "Character Issues"...

Now Mayock will be on his dick, because he was riding it ever since the 3rd pick, lol

Scouting report: The shutdown corner has been given a clean bill of health."

First time I've seen him described as this.

I think he'll work out for them. I also think we got a guy who'll be a Raider for many seasons to come.

You better believe it!!! I'm happy for him, though playing on a line with Jared Allen won't hurt.

As for Hayden, his resume screams 'playmaker', and that's was RM's emphasis during his pre draft press conference.

I've read it b4. Anytime a player has an injury it will scare off some teams. One can ? Star. DM will be on the PUP when camp starts. As I've said.., read where some GM's had him as the highest rated CB
